MATERIAL DIRECTORY

Stainless Steel Materials

Find stainless steel for the parts you make. Compare material families, individual grades and product forms, then discuss the performance, processing and surface requirements of your application. If you have not chosen a grade, a drawing or description of the part is enough to begin the enquiry.

Stainless Steel Families

Ferritic Stainless Steel

400-series options for formed components, with the grade and processing condition matched to the service environment.

409, 409L, 430, 430F, 430J1L, 436, 439, 441, 442, 444.

Duplex Stainless Steel

Grades combining strength and corrosion resistance for components with defined service conditions.

2205, 2304, 2507.

Martensitic Stainless Steel

Heat-treatable grades for components whose hardness and strength depend on the specified condition.

410, 416, 420, 420J2, 431, 440C.

Precipitation-Hardening Stainless Steel

Grades with strength developed through a specified heat treatment; delivery and final condition matter to selection.

GRADE + FINAL CONDITION

Material Requirements for Your Part

The right material depends on how your part is made and used. Discuss magnetic response, corrosion, strength, forming and surface needs alongside the grade and final condition.

Non-Magnetic / Low Magnetic Response

If your part needs low magnetic response after forming or welding, share the final use and processing plan with us. We review the material condition, permeability requirement and inspection criteria together with the relevant material and processing partners.

Magnetic Response in the Finished Condition

Low magnetic response is defined by the agreed magnetic permeability and inspection criteria for the finished part. The grade and delivery condition matter, and cold working or welding can change the response. Selecting a grade alone does not ensure that the material will meet the magnetic requirement after processing.

Material and Delivery Condition

Austenitic stainless steels generally have low magnetic response in the solution-annealed condition. Ferritic and martensitic grades, and the ferritic phase in duplex grades, are magnetic. Specify the exact grade and heat-treatment condition rather than relying on a series name or a general hard or soft label.

Effects of Forming and Fabrication

Cold working can form magnetic martensite in some austenitic grades. Rolling, drawing, bending and stamping therefore need to be considered alongside welding and later heat treatment. Describe the complete route for your part; magnetic response alone is not a method of identifying its grade.

Details for Your Enquiry

Final Processing Condition

List the cold rolling, drawing, bending, stamping, machining, welding or heat treatment planned for your part. Identify the final condition in which the magnetic requirement needs to be met.

Acceptance Criteria

A specified relative permeability limit and measurement method help define the request. Include inspection locations, local thickness and geometry, and any drawing or customer specification.

Inspection and Documents

We review the inspection stage, sampling and report requirements with the material and processing route. These criteria are agreed for the order.

Your Questions About Magnetic Requirements

Does choosing an austenitic grade ensure a non-magnetic finished part?

No. Austenitic grades are relevant to low-permeability applications, but their magnetic response can change with processing. The specific grade, final condition and acceptance criteria need to be considered together.

What does “after processing” mean in my request?

It means the condition after the operations that matter for your part. List the planned forming, drawing, welding and heat-treatment steps, and identify when the magnetic requirement will be inspected.

What information should I include in the product configuration?

You can select “Non-magnetic after processing” in the product options and add the processing route, target permeability and inspection requirements. A drawing can identify the areas to be assessed; you can also attach it directly to an enquiry.

How are the inspection requirements agreed?

Provide the required limit and test specification. WANRONG METAL coordinates the review with the relevant material and processing partners; the agreed inspection scope and documents are recorded for the order.

Corrosion Requirements

A grade needs to suit the environment your finished part will face. We review exposure, fabrication and surface requirements together when discussing corrosion performance.

Service Environment

Indoor or outdoor use, contact media, chlorides, chemicals, temperature and cleaning conditions help define the exposure your material needs to handle.

Finished Component

Welds, formed edges and joints can affect the finished component. A drawing and any specified corrosion test or inspection criteria help us review the material request.

Discuss Your Service Conditions

Strength and Formability

The material condition needs to suit both forming and the strength required in service. Compare the planned processing, part geometry and tolerances alongside the properties specified for delivery and the finished part.

Mechanical Requirements

Any tensile strength, yield strength, elongation or hardness requirements from your specification can be included with the material condition, standard and inspection documents.

Forming Route

A drawing or process description can cover rolling, drawing, stamping, bending, machining, welding and later heat treatment. Include thickness, bend details and the final inspection condition.

Choose the Product Form

Surface Performance

Your part may need a particular appearance, cleaning response or functional surface. We discuss the substrate and base finish with PVD, functional topcoat or decorative film options for that use.

Appearance and Use

An appearance sample can show colour, gloss, texture and grain direction. Tell us which faces are visible and how the finished surface will be handled and cleaned.

Processing and Protection

Forming, cut edges and inspection are considered with the finished surface. Removable transport or processing film is specified separately from decorative film and functional topcoats.
