STAINLESS STEEL + DECORATIVE FILM

Decorative Film Lamination

Decorative film gives stainless steel coils, strip and sheets a selected colour or texture for visible components. We coordinate the steel substrate, samples, lamination processing and delivery with specialist partners.

LAYER CONSTRUCTION

A Multilayer Decorative Film

The film combines decorative and metallic layers with a carrier and bonding layers. Its construction is selected with the appearance sample and the processing requirements of the finished part.

Film reference width
1260 mm
Film reference length
100 m
Film reference thickness
0.3 mm, excluding the release liner

These dimensions describe the film, separately from steel substrate thickness and coil or sheet dimensions.

LAMINATION PROCESS

From Film Layers to Laminated Steel

Film-layer preparation, bonding to steel and inspection form separate stages. Our team coordinates the sample, processing requirements and delivery with the specialist partner.

01

Film-Layer Preparation

Film materials are purchased and inspected before the decorative layers are prepared.

  1. Material preparation & inspection

Check the incoming material against the agreed construction and appearance requirements.

  2. Hard coating

    Prepare the surface hard-coating layer.

  3. Film metallisation

Apply the specified PVD metallic layer to the film system.

  4. Molecular coating

Continue with the specified molecular-coating step.

02

Bonding to the Steel Substrate

Adhesive coating, heated rollers and ageing bond the decorative film to the steel substrate.

  1. Adhesive coating

Apply the bonding layer for the selected film and steel surface.

  2. Hot lamination

Bring the film and steel together through the heated lamination rollers.

  3. Ageing

Allow the composite to mature under the agreed processing conditions.

03

Inspection & Delivery

The laminated material is reviewed against the sample requirements and agreed checks before dispatch.

  1. Intermediate inspection

Review the composite material during processing.

  2. Testing

Check the agreed appearance, adhesion and forming requirements for the order.

  3. Storage & dispatch

Protect, identify and prepare the approved material for delivery.

If the material will be formed into tubes, include the forming, welding and seam-appearance requirements so the processing sequence can be reviewed.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Decorative Lamination Q&A

How is decorative lamination different from PVD?

Direct metal PVD deposits a coating on the metal substrate. Decorative lamination bonds a film system to the steel. The film itself can include an upstream PVD-metallised layer, while the steel-to-film bonding route remains a separate operation.

Is this the same as removable protective film?

A decorative laminate forms the specified finished appearance. Removable protective film protects a surface during handling or fabrication. Interleaving paper and outer packing film have separate packaging roles.

Can the laminated material be formed afterwards?

Share the intended bends, stamping or roll-forming operations and a drawing. Substrate, film construction, processing order and sample acceptance are reviewed together before production.

How do I request a colour or texture?

Send a colour or texture reference, identify the visible faces and describe the finished component. Our team coordinates the sample and approval requirements with the processing partner.

What should I include in an enquiry?

Include the metal form, grade and dimensions if known, plus the surface appearance, quantity, intended processing and destination. You can begin with a drawing or reference photo and add detailed specifications later.
